Fishing
Central Hawkes Bay enjoys an open season all year. There are many quiet and secluded spots where the fish are just waiting for visiting anglers. Take a hamper for the day or catch the early rise and return to the lodge for a wonderful brunch mid morning. Central Hawkes Bay has one of the highest sunshine hours per year in New Zealand and there is some beautiful scenery to admire. River Lodge is just an easy drive to the Waipawa River, but there are many other spring fed streams and the Tuki Tuki River to be fished. Guiding is also available. Catch and release is the usual practice but occasionally there is justification to enjoy the rewards of the catch.
Of course there's plenty for non-fishing people too - explore the river banks, shop, golf, vineyard tours, visits to the beach or bush - or just enjoy the comfort of The Lodge.
